• Sewing Masks for Maine

How our mask system works

Good morning! I hope you are all taking good care of yourselves- remember to fill your own cup too. ❤️ We have added almost 200 new volunteers this week, so I wanted to illustrate more clearly how our mask system works.

Our system was set up to:

  • Provide one point of contact for healthcare orgs so they are not bombarded with individual questions, deliveries, and offers of help. Time is a precious resource, and we don't want to distract them from their important work.

  • Produce simple, consistent masks from hundreds of individual stitchers quickly. This means the facilities receive masks that are the same sizes, function the same way, and can endure repeated laundering and sterilization.

  • Create easy drop off locations throughout the state.

It might feel like our standards are too strict here sometimes, but it's all in the name of providing the most helpful mask we can to the people using them. And the most helpful masks are consistent. We can't thank you enough for your incredibly important work. ❤️

We have created this website to pool resources and give guidance to people in Maine to sew masks for use in healthcare settings. To be clear, these masks do not protect from COVID-19, and are not considered valid PPE. We are responding to direct requests from healthcare facilities in Maine following the amended "last resort" guidance from the federal CDC.
